Overview
After two generations of bridging the gap between the Tamaraw AUV of the nineties and the larger upmarket Innova, the Avanza has been updated with a modern front-wheel drive DNGA platform.
New for 2022, the all-new third generation Toyota Avanza is more refined than its smaller rear-wheel drive predecessors. Toyota ditches the stubby tall narrow looks of the old Avanza, in its place is a sleeker shape with a design language that is aligned with other modern Toyota models. Like its exterior, the third generation Avanza’s interior was given a full makeover. Inside, it features a modern dashboard with a layout similar to its platform-mate, the Raize crossover SUV.
In the safety department, front dual airbags, anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, traction control, hill-start assist and three-point seatbelts for all passengers are standard across the board. The 1.5 G gets extra safety features like side airbags, curtain airbags, blind spot monitor, and rear cross traffic alert.
Powering the all-new Avanza are familiar gasoline engines, the 1.3-liter 1NR-VE mill which produces 97hp and 122Nm of torque and the larger 1.5-liter 2NR-VE motor which puts out 105hp and 138Nm of torque. The 1.3L powerplant can be paired to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission. The 1.5L engine is exclusively paired to a CVT.
The Avanza features independent MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion beam rear setup. All variants get vented front disc brakes and rear drums.
