Overview
When Toyota launched the 86 back in 2012, it marked the return of the affordable lightweight RWD coupe, pretty much the same way Mazda's MX-5 brought back the fun-to-drive roadster. The Toyota 86 in a way was the spiritual successor to both the Toyota AE86 of the 80s and the first gen Celica of the 70s. After a decade, the all-new 2023 GR86 has landed on our shores. The new GR86 takes the winning "86" formula a step further with its curvier more stylish design and more powerful engine.
Under the hood of the new GR86 is a larger 2.4-liter (up from 2.0-liters) 4-cylinder boxer mill which produces 232hp (up from 197 hp) and 250Nm of torque (up from 205 Nm). Like before, power is sent to the rear wheels either through a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
